How I Work
The people I work with are often struggling with present and past traumas, relationship problems, and challenges with mood, self-esteem, and identity. I believe psychological symptoms hold meaning and have the potential to be understood and worked through. For adults, perhaps this means struggling with a sense that something is missing in your life, a lack of “realness” within yourself, or a feeling that you are failing. Perhaps you are experiencing anxiety or depression, or feel “stuck” in your career or creative practice. You might be here because you are seeking a deeper connection within your relationships, or find yourself returning to depleting behaviors. My hope is that through our collaboration, you experience greater contact with yourself and reach a fuller understanding of what you long to make with your life.
If you are here seeking relief as a couple, you may feel confused by your own relationship patterns. Perhaps you are caught between keeping your partner at arm’s length and feeling confined. I focus my work with couples on gaining an understanding of the histories each of you bring into your relationship, and untangling the past from the present. My goal is that the communication techniques we use in session will become a part of the way you take care of each other outside. I am deeply moved by the project of making intimacy more possible between those I work with.
I specialize in working with parents, which involves tending to the inner parents of our own upbringings. In parent work, my aim is to facilitate the deepening of love, curiosity, and connection between you and your children. Parenting is a tough job, and parents are often under-supported in the encouragement of their child’s growth and development. Each stage of your child’s life brings new challenges, as well as new opportunities for discovery, mastery, and closeness. My approach is to work closely with you and your child to support the building of emotional muscle and self-esteem. My work with parents includes parenting couples undergoing separations, divorce, couples in blended families, and parent couples of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations.
In my work with children, I often incorporate play and art therapy. Through a combined approach of emotional learning and playful exploration, I work to foster more satisfying ways of growing together as a family. In my work with teens, my hope is to create a space where we can discover what is exciting about building your unique lives. As a young person, it is not uncommon to feel out of place within your body, family, social circles, or culture at large. The inner emotional demands of living through these years are hard enough without the shifting pressures of school, work, and society. The young people I work with are often navigating neurodiversity, complex questions of gender and sexuality, and conflicts with autonomy and the initiation into adulthood.
